Art Deco Golden Beauty With An Orchid

Art Deco Golden Beauty With An Orchid by American Artist Billy Devorss (1908 – 1985); known for his pin up girl illustration art using pastels.

This is an elegant vintage art deco glamour girl pin-up girl illustration of a golden haired blue eye blonde beauty with blue gemstone teardrop earrings on triangular chains; and she is accented with a very large red, white and blue orchid that combine beautifully with the golden glow of light that illuminates her from above and the front of her.

This is a retouched digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image available as a canvas print online.

Billy was born William Albartus DeVorss in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1908, and graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1934 (Note: there is other information that says he was entirely self taught!); then moving to New York’s Greenwich Village and working there until the early 1950s; where upon he moved back to the midwest with his wife.

Billy, like Rolf Armstrong used pastels to create his pinup illustrations and created an idealized romantic girl next door look of the young ladies he painted.

His work was often featured on muotscope cards (still images, typically of pin-up material, printed on cards and sold through vending machines in a 5 ¹⁄₄-by-3 ¹⁄₄-inch format.), postcards, calendars, and prints.

He also did advertising art, cover art for the publications Beauty Parade, Eyeful and Flirt.
