Dance of the Seven Veils
Dance of the Seven Veils c1925 by French Painter Gaston Bussière (1862 – 1928); a painter and illustrator of the Symbolist Style, as well as a student of Alexandre Cabanel and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
This alluring imagery depicts the tale of the infamous dance of Salome, when she the stepdaughter of Herod Antipas and daughter of Herodias danced before him and those at a banquet in the honor of his birthday with his guest Pontius Pilate, the Roman Prefect or Governor of Judea from around A.D. 26 – 37 in attendance.
At the completion of the dance, Salome then demands for payment, the Head of John the Baptist on a Silver Platter.
