Portrait of The Hon. Mrs Harold Ritchie

Portrait of The Hon. Mrs Harold Ritchie by British Painter John Collier (1850 – 1934); Pre-Raphaelite and prominent portrait painter and a leading writer of his time.

This is a beautiful portrait of the Lt. Col. Hon. Harold Ritchie; D.S.O. (1876 – 1918); the third son of Charles Thomson 1st Baron Ritchie of Dundee (1838 – 1906); decorated with the Distinguished Service Order for his gallantry and bravery in during World War I, where he suffered wounds that led to his death.

He married Ella Priestly (? – 1956) in 1907; who was the daughter of Robert Chambers Priestly O.B.E, of High Wycombie Buckinghamshire.

It depicts her wearing a full length white dress with lace trim shoulders and a silver brooch at the center as well as a gold necklace with gemstones or diamonds hanging from it.

Her auburn colored hair is folded upwards above her ears so that the viewer gets a full view of the upper part of her chest and partial shoulders.

She is sitting on the left armrest of a large wooden chair that has a mesh wooden back and an emerald green satin cushion seat with yellow embroidered flowers.

Behind her is a very large golden brown drape that contrast beautifully with her hair and the colors of the chair; with the scene being illuminated by a bright light coming from her right.

This is a remastered digital art old masters reproduction of a public domain image that is available as a canvas print online.
